About Platogo

Platogo is a social gaming network, and is the first platform to apply the Web 2.0 paradigms of user-generated content and strong community focus to browser-based gaming in a way that's attractive to gamers and developers alike.

The range of options available to gamers sets Platogo apart from its competitors. Users can play alone, with or against each other; they can measure their performances against others; they can rate games and individual levels, comment on them, post them or recommend them onwards. Users can also create and share their own levels: in a racing game, for example, they have the opportunity to build their own racetracks.

Users are thus encouraged to help advance games, and to grow from being purely consumers to actual content producers. The number of quality games and levels available can grow indefinitely through an interactive community that is a virtual meeting point with its own momentum.

Game developers also gain significantly, as Platogo offers them the optimal platform for their games and appealing revenue shares. Revenue is driven by sales to users, e.g. in-game items or features via microtransactions, and by multiple advertising options on the website and inside games. Developers also have their own profile pages, allowing them to connect quickly and directly with their audience.

Based in Vienna, Austria, Platogo - a contraction of play together online - was founded in early 2008 under the name Nullstars by Jakob Sommerhuber (CEO) and Florian Landerl (CTO). After securing funding in June 2008 from departure, Vienna city council's entrepreneurial fund, Jakob & Florian joined forces with equity partners Christoph Atteneder (CCO), Simone Haider (CMO) and Daniel Kuales (CCD) to form the core Platogo team.

The five Platogo partners have long been personally and professionally acquainted, and their expertise encompasses multimedia and server-side programming, software and web front-end development, graphic design, and game development. Moreover, all five are long-time active members of the developer and gaming communities. Together they have developed a proven concept to tap into the vast, high-growth casual gaming market.

Platogo went into private beta in May 2009 and feedback from users, game developers and the wider community has been extremely positive. In June 2009, Platogo won Mini Seedcamp Berlin, receiving praise not only from the jury's influential members but also from other competitors. This was immediately followed by an invitation to present at TechCrunch, which Platogo also won.

Platogo is currently in discussions with prospective strategic partners regarding financing and international expansion. Platogo's public beta launch is scheduled for Summer 2009.
