Platogo provides tools and APIs for Flash game developers to bring their games to Facebook and other social networks easily. At the core of Platogo is the Platogo Wrapper, that automatically integrates tightly with the supported social networks. It transforms any casual game into a social gaming experience by adding features like friend's scores, 1on1 challenges, post-to-wall achievements and a built-in shop solution to sell virtual goods.
Platogo offers the optimal distribution platform for games as well as appealing revenue shares. Revenue is driven by sales to users, e.g. in-game items or features via microtransactions. Furthermore, developers are free to display ads on their own e.g. by using a 3rd party ads provider. Premium customers can also go for the fully customizable white label version of the Platogo Wrapper.
Platogo – a contraction of play together online – is based in Vienna, Austria and was founded in early 2008 under the name Nullstars by Jakob Sommerhuber and Florian Landerl. After securing funding in June 2008 from departure, Vienna city council's entrepreneurial fund, Jakob and Florian joined forces with equity partners Christoph Atteneder, Simone Haider and Daniel Kuales to form the core Platogo team.
The five Platogo partners have long been personally and professionally acquainted, and their expertise encompasses multimedia and server-side programming, software and web front-end development, graphic design, and game development. Moreover, all five are long-time active members of the developer and gaming communities. Together they have developed a proven concept to tap into the vast, high-growth social gaming market.
By now, the team consists of 7 permanent members.
Platogo started off as a gaming portal with strong focus on user-generated content, that went into private beta in May 2009 and received extremely positive feedback from users, game developers and the wider community. In June 2009, Platogo won Mini Seedcamp Berlin, receiving praise not only from the jury's influential members but also from other competitors. This success was immediately followed by an invitation to present at TechCrunch, which Platogo also won.
Platogo.com was officially launched in September 2009 to further widespread acclaim.
Since 2010 the company has been mainly focusing on the abstraction of multiple social networks and the development of the Platogo Wrapper.
In 2010, Platogo received another funding – this time from AWS Impulse, the first nationwide funding program for Austria's creative industries.
Currently, the team is in discussions with prospective strategic partners regarding financing and international expansion.
